In his last summer event as an eligible member of the Rogers Royals Golf team, Derek Brinker won the biggest event of his career by capturing the MN Junior Players Tournament of Champions medal. Derek immediately left after his win for South Carolina and enrollment into the Hank Haney International School of Golf at Hilton Head.
Derek will complete his senior year of high school and attempt to further his goal of playing Division One college golf in South Carolina.
Also competing in the tournament were Royals players Corey Muenzhuber and Jordan Rykal. Corey shot 82-75-157 and finished tied for 21st. Jordan tied for 27th by virtue of a two round total of 159.
Jordan and Corey's success in the Players Tour bodes well for the 2011 Royals campaign in spite of Brinkers departure. Combined with returning letter winners Mac Buege and Morgan Rask, and a handful of others Royals earning valuable summer junior tour experience, the Royals will be well positioned to make another state tournament run.
Mac Buege's JR PGA National tounament was cut short due to an injury. Mac complained of tingling and numbness in his forearms and hands during the first round at Sycamore Hills CC.
