Rising senior Jordan Rykal put his home course knowledge to good use as he won the Fox Hollow GC qualifier to advance to the Minnesota State Open. Rykal shot a three under 69.
The MN State Open is the premier summer championship and this year is scheduled for July 22-24 at Rush Creek GC in Maple Grove. The stroke play event at Fox was the fifth of eight in which Minnesota professionals as well as amateurs attempt to advance to the championship.
Also moving on were Royals alumni McCabe Buege (two under 70) and MN Gopher player Colton Buege (one under 71) as current and former Royals captured three of the top four qualifying spots. The is Colton's second appearance in the Open.
Rykal's medalist performance included five birdies and just two bogies. He was four under par on his back nine. Mac Buege got off to a two under start before coasting in with nine straight pars. Colton suffered what looked to be a damaging triple bogey six on his sixth hole of the day but was four under the rest of the way, including an eagle three on the par five Gold Seven (his sixteenth hole of the day).
Nine players advanced to the championship.
